Explore the Enchanting ‘Heritage Protected’ Village of Paleá (Old) Períthia.
14km from Villa Artemis

Nestled in Corfu’s northeast, beneath the majestic Mount Pantokrator, lies the historic village of Paleá (Old) Períthia. This village holds the title of being the oldest continuously inhabited settlement in Corfu, boasting a rich history dating back to the 14th century.

Once a thriving hub and the wealthiest village on the island, Paleá Períthia stood strong with 130 Venetian-built houses, each crafted by hand and surrounded by a tapestry of eight charming churches. Serving as a sanctuary from pirate invasions during the summer, the village embodied the concept of ‘seeing the sea without being seen.’

However, as tourism emerged in the 1960s, inhabitants gradually descended to the coast, leaving Paleá Períthia to the passage of time. In 2010, a passionate couple breathed life back into this historic gem, meticulously restoring three ruins and dedicating 12 years to nurturing the village back to its former glory. Today, it remains a cherished destination adored by both locals and visitors.

Step into the timeless allure of Paleá Períthia, where history and natural beauty harmonise to create an unforgettable experience amidst Corfu’s stunning landscapes.
